The CheapGeek way to clean your refrigerator-

Clean your Refrigerator-

Why:

You’re moving in to your new home and the previous occupants have left the refrigerator.

  1. You just bought a new refrigerator.
  2. You just bought a used refrigerator
  3. Your refrigerator is emitting an unusual odor that can only be defined as a “dead body” smell.
  4. You are moving and the place needs to be clean to retrieve security deposit.

Supplies:

  1. 1-gallon container. Preferably a bucket- or a container with a wide opening.
  2. 1 1/2 cups of white vinegar.
  3. ¼ cup of dish washing liquid.
  4. 2 medium to large dish towels
  5. 1 sponge.

Process:

  1. Remove everything out of the refrigerator
  2. Fill your container with hot water.
  3. Take your sponge and submerge it in the hot water, remove the sponge and wring most of the water out.
  4. Inside the refrigerator- find the spots that need to be “spot treated,” (dried food spots, old cola, weird, discolored, unidentifiable remnants of meals past, that’s why you are doing this right?) The sponge will allow you to squeeze some hot water onto the spot to loosen it’s death-grip on your refrigerator.
  5. After the “spot treatment,” has had time to loosen the offending the spot. Use one of the dishtowels to remove the spot(s) by now your dishtowel is very nasty- that’s ok.
  6. Add the dish washing liquid to the hot water. Add your dirty dishtowel to water- wring it out and wipe the inside the refrigerator. Don’t forget to wipe inside the gasket that keeps the cold beer cooling air inside the refrigerator. Mold grows there and it needs to be cleaned too.

NOTE: Try to clean the inside of the refrigerator without flooding it. The goal is to clean it and not make mess more than what you started with.

  1. Once your are satisfied that the inside of your refrigerator is clean or your arms are tired, dump the now dirty hot water out and refill it with hot water. Rinse the sponge and your dirty dishtowel.
  2. Add the vinegar to the hot water.
  3. Use the sponge and your dishtowel to wipe the inside of the refrigerator with your hot vinegar water solution. After the inside has been wiped-
  4. Use the remaining, clean, dry, dishtowel to dry the inside of your refrigerator.

NOTE: The vinegar with its high acidity level helps to prevent bacterial and mold growth. The Vinegar smell dissipates and helps to neutralize odors.

  1. Done. You can dump the water OR:
  1. With the remaining vinegar water solution- you can really be a go-getter and wipe the outside and top of the refrigerator.
  2. Done? Now dump the water and clean up. Reload refrigerator or buy food to load your refrigerator. If you are moving out of you apartment or whatever- turn the refrigerator all the way down to one or off. Leave the doors slightly open.
  3. NOW you’re done.
